Not In Control
In the grand chamber of the city council, a nervous and skinny young engineer was granted an invitation to an emergency meeting held by the city's leaders. He had struggled for weeks to secure a chance to speak to the council about a report he had written. Despite being ignored by his supervisors and managers, he found a way to connect with the captain of the orbiting city.
The room was silent for a long and uncomfortable period of time. David, sounding nervous, broke the silence, "I wish it was any other way, but the integrity of the orbiting ship is overstressed. The beams that make up the skeleton of this city are aging much faster than the founders of our city predicted. I have been obsessing over my calculation since I discovered the foundation stress level, and it really seems inevitable that this city is reaching the end of its life cycle."
